What Is a M.E. Project?

For the last month of the school year, JTSD was encouraging students to take ownership of what they are learning by focusing on something for which they are passionate.  The project could fit into these 4 suggested categories:

1) Something to learn about

2) Something to create

3) Something to help others

4) Something to problem solve

Once the student narrowed in on their focus, they, along with their families, were responsible to brainstorm, research and present their idea.

Avid brainstormed a variety of topics including space race, building a tree house, increasing recycling options, lemonade stand, etc.  He ultimately landed on a Little Free Library as he felt this actually satisfied all 4 categories.

We worked together on researching and writing letters but this website (aside from this introduction), was his independent creation to present his idea to his family and classmates.

Enjoy!

Why I picked a Little Free Library

1) My family and I love books and little free libraries.  I visit them anytime I see one.  Little free libraries are where my Bebe and Papa live.

2)  Books are good!  During my research I found that children growing up in homes without books are on average three years behind children in homes with lots of books,  https://littlefreelibrary.org/

That made me sad.  I want to help.

3) It would give people at the park something to do if they were tired of playing.

What I am doing to help the project

1) I am researching using the Little Free Library website the steps I need to take.  I wrote a letter to Matt Crouse, the Park Director and we are meeting soon to pick the spot.

2) I am making this website to tell people about the project and help raise money to get the kit.

3) Once the Little Free Library is built, I will ride my  bike down and check on it at least once a week.  I also host a kickoff party when the Library is done.

1) You can donate money to help me, even just $1.  On the gallery tab, I put a picture of the kit I want to buy and explained why.  My parents are going to match what people donate in money up to $500.  In the Contact section we listed how you can send donations. If I have extra money, I will donate to the Christian County Library.

2) You can donate books to me.  I want to add all types of books for kids and adults.  My favorite topic of book is science fiction.

3) If you can't donate, you can always help by giving love to everybody.

What can you do to help?
